Overview

The Greater Peoria Family YMCA is seeking a Youth Sports Program Referee who reports to Sports Director and Program Lead. The Youth Sports Program Referee is responsible for officiating youth sports games or tournaments involving volleyball, basketball, and flag football while creating a safe, fair, and positive environment for participants. This role supports the YMCA mission by modeling sportsmanship, encouraging skill development, and ensuring games are conducted according to program rules and guidelines.  

Responsibilities

  • Officiate youth volleyball, basketball, and flag football games/tournaments in accordance with YMCA and sport-specific rules
  • Ensure the safety of all participants during games and immediately address unsafe behavior
  • Start and end games on schedule and manage game flow effectively
  • Demonstrate and enforce good sportsmanship among players, coaches, and spectators
  • Communicate clearly with coaches, players, and scorekeepers
  • Make fair, consistent, and confident calls during gameplay
  • Set up and assist with basic equipment needs before and after games
  • Report incidents, injuries, or concerns to the Program Director or Site Supervisor
  • Attend required trainings, meetings, and seasonal orientations
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of children in the program by providing close supervision of all activities. 
  • Have a thorough knowledge of branch emergency procedures and take appropriate actions for emergency situations. 

Qualifications

  • Certifications: CPR, AED, Basic First Aid.   
  • Mandated Reporter. 
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations of sport program offerings (training may be provided)
  • Ability to work with youth ages 4 to 12
  • Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in fast-high paced environments
  • Reliable, punctual, ability to work evenings and weekends
  • Previous officiating or coaching experience preferred

Posted Salary Range

USD $16.22 - USD $16.22 /Hr.
